Our studio art program is a little different this year. Instead of a hiring a long-term sub for our art teacher’s maternity leave, we decided it would be fun and enriching to invite local artists to work with our students and teachers for week long residencies in a variety of art mediums. So far, we’ve enjoyed working with Magi Leland, a painter who lives in Rye, NH and David Schneider, a clay sculptor who lives in Cape Neddick, ME. Both artists have taken us, step by step, through the creative process of making art starting with what one finds inspirational in nature. Studio time includes reflection, discussion, and the opportunity to engage over a period of several days with each piece of art. We look forward to our winter artists-in-residence, Rachael Eastman, Gayle Fitzgerald, and Amy Clark, who will share their work in printing-making, papermaking, and ceramics. painting
